Maple country-style French toast

Ingredients (4 servings)

  • 4 slices country-style round loaf
  • 1 cup (250 mL) 2% milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 – 3 drops vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. (2 mL) citrus zest, minced (optional)
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) maple syrup
  • Pinch salt
  • Butter and oil as required
  • Maple syrup to taste

 

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix milk, eggs, vanilla, maple syrup and salt together.
  2. Immerse each slice of bread in the mixture.
  3. In a skillet, heat butter and oil over medium-high heat.
  4. One by one, brown slices both sides.
  5. Serve with a generous pouring of maple syrup.
