Maple country-style French toast

Ingredients:
- 4 slices country-style round loaf
- 1 cup (250 mL) 2% milk
- 2 eggs
- 2 – 3 drops vanilla
- 1/2 tsp. (2 mL) citrus zest, minced (optional)
- 1/4 cup (60 mL) maple syrup
- Pinch salt
- Butter and oil as required
- Maple syrup to taste
Preparation:
In a large bowl, mix milk, eggs, vanilla, maple syrup and salt together.
Immerse each slice of bread in the mixture.
In a skillet, heat butter and oil over medium-high heat.
One by one, brown slices both sides.
Serve with a generous pouring of maple syrup.
