Apple and Maple Pie

 

 

Ingredients (8 servings)

Crust

  • 2/3 cup of Graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup of whole ground almonds
  • 2 tablespoons of maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 pinch of salt

Filling

  • 4 cups of apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup of natural yoghurt
  • 1/3 cup of maple syrup
  • 1/3 cup of whole wheat flour
  • 1 egg

Garnish

  • 1/4 cup of pure maple sugar nuggets
  • 1 tablespoon of pine nuts
  • Cinnamon


Method

  1. Preheat oven to 160°C (325°F).
  2. Mix all crust ingredients in a bowl and press onto the bottom of a 23cm (9oz.) pie plate.
  3. Bake for 12 minutes.    
  4. Mix the filling ingredients in a bowl. Spread over the bottom of piecrust.
  5. Sprinkle with maple sugar chips, pine nuts and cinnamon. Bake in the oven for 45 minutes at 190°C (375°F).
